How is Training in NDA Conducted ?

National Defence Academy – Nation’s First Tri services Academy is an Organization who makes Officers of Indian Armed Forces I.e Army-Air Force and Navy. It is is one of the most rigorous and prestigious military training programs in the world  which  is designed to transform young cadets into confident, disciplined, and well-rounded officers for the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Situated in Khadakwasla NDA is known for its Training Regime.In this blog we will talk about NDA Training Schedule Or How is Training Conducted in NDA.

Training in NDA

Duration of Training in NDA is of 3 Years Divided into 6 Terms.In Colleges what we call as Semester we call it as a Term in NDA.Each Term is Of 5 Months with 28 Days Vacations .In Other Words in a Year there are Two Terms and Vacations are Twice so Cadets tend to get leaves in NDA (Often there is a Myth that in NDA You dont tend to get Leaves)

Components Of Training

Training of National Defence Academy includes Academic Training,Physical Training,Military Discipline Training and Service Specific Training.

Academic Training (3 Years)

• NDA is affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) from 1987 onwards thus all cadets graduating from NDA gets JNU Degree
• Cadets pursue either of  B.A., B.Sc., or B.Tech (depending on their stream).
• Subjects include:
  • Science (Physics, Chemistry, Maths)
  • Humanities (History, Geography, Political Science)
  • Computer Science, Foreign Languages, etc.

 Physical Training

• Daily PT (Physical Training) and drill
• Long-distance running, route marches, cross-country
• Obstacle training (17-obstacle course)
• Swimming (compulsory), horse riding, and sports like football, hockey, boxing, and volleyball
• Fitness tests and competitions between squadrons

 Military Training

• Basic military skills: weapon training, map reading, fieldcraft, survival skills
• Drill and discipline
• Leadership training and confidence-building activities
• Camps and war games (e.g., Camp Rover)

 Service-Specific Training (Final Year Focus)

In the last year of NDA training, cadets receive specialized orientation:

• Army cadets: infantry tactics, weapons, fieldcraft
• Navy cadets: basic seamanship, naval navigation
• Air Force cadets: principles of flight, aircraft recognition
