Karambir Singh Take Charge Of Indian Navy Chief

Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of Eastern Command, will take charge of the 24th Indian Navy’s Chief on May 31, 2019. 23rd Indian Navy Chief  Sunil Lamba will retire on May 31, 2019.

Before appointing as cheif of Indian Navy he worked as Flag Officer in the Vishakhapatnam  as head of the Eastern Naval Command.

Admiral Karambir Singh said, “It is a matter of great honor and pride for me to take charge as the 24th Chief of the Naval Staff. My ancestors have firmly ensured that the Navy has a very solid basis and reached on  new heights ”

He also thanks to his pre existing officer Sunil Lanba f0r his service to the  nation

• As the the cheif his  first priority is to accelerate long pending modernization of the Indian Navy, including the addirtion of warships, submarines and aircraft.
• The Navy currently has around 132 ships, 220 aircraft and 15 submarines.
• He is a graduate from Mumbai’s Defense Services Staff College of Wellington and College of Naval Warfare.
• He was ex-student of National Defense Academy in Khadakvasala, he has held various key positions in the Navy during his career in 39 years.
• Joined the Indian Navy in July 1980, he earned his wings as a helicopter pilot in 1981 and flew extensively on Chetak (Alouette) and Kamov helicopters.
• Admiral Karmbir Singh has taken over the charge of Indian Coast Guard Ship Chandabi, Missile Corvette INS Vijaydurg, as well as two guided missile destroyers, INS Rana and INS Delhi.
• To encourage Flag ranking, he was appointed as the cheif of staff of eastern Naval Command .
• As Vice Admiral , he was also the Director General of Project under the Navy’s infrastructure in Karwar.
• His other flag appointments includes Cheif of Staff and Flag officer Commanding Maharastra and Gujarat Naval Area.
• In the headquarters of Defence Ministry he served as Deputy Cheif of the Naval Staff.
• He is the first helicopter pilot to become the Cheif of Naval staff.
• The Navy cheif retires after three years or after attaining the age of 62 years whichever is earlier.
