Trishul Defence Academy Taking another step towards the modernization of the Indian Army, the Defense Ministry has approved a proposal of Rs 7965 crore to purchase modern weapons and military equipment. This also includes the purchase of 12 light utility helicopters from Hindustan Aeronautics.
The procurement proposal was approved in a meeting of the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC), the highest decision-making body of the Defense Ministry. The major projects approved today include 12 light utility helicopters, short range hun mounts, Lynx gun fire control systems and mid-life upgrades of Donear aircraft, according to an official statement from the ministry.
The project will involve equipment designed, developed and manufactured in India under Made in India. 12 Light Utility Helicopters will be procured from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The Lynx U2 Gunfire Control System for the Navy will be procured from Bharat Electronics Limited, which will enhance the tracking and firepower of the Navy’s warships.

The DAC on Tuesday also approved the mid-life upgrade of “Dornier aircraft” to enhance its naval capability for maritime reconnaissance and coastal surveillance. This upgradation will be undertaken by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Manufactured by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited to promote self-reliant India.
The case for global procurement of naval guns has been closed with the induction of guns in the Advanced Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM). These SRGMs will be deployed on Indian warships. These will accelerate using guided munitions and range extension. The maneuvers from them provide the specific ability to achieve the targets.
