The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Army have produced India’s first nine-mm indigenous machine pistol. The indigenous machine pistol ASMI has been prepared for the soldiers of the Indian Army. India’s first indigenous machine pistol ASMI was shown at the Indian Army Exhibition.
This pistol is completely India made and has been developed by DRDO. The Indian Army has also helped in making this pistol gun. A statement issued by the DRDO said that the machine pistol can fire from a distance of 100 meters.
This pistol gun will replace the nine-mm pistol in the defence forces. This machine pistol can be fired in the range of 100 meters and it has been placed in the orbit of cannons of Uzi series of Israel. This machine pistol has fired more than 300 rounds in the last four months of its development.
This weapon has been developed in a record time of 4 months. Its upper receiver is made from aircraft-grade aluminium and the lower receiver is made of carbon fibre. The 3D printing process has been used in designing and prototyping its various parts including the trigger.

This pistol has an 8-inch barrel and 33 rounds of the high capacity magazine, weighing less than 2 kg. ASMI can be exported along with the use of central police organizations and state police services, which is expected to generate huge employment.
The ministry said in a statement that this pistol will prove to be powerful as a personal weapon in various operations in the armed forces as well as in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.
Under Atmanirbhar Bharat, self-reliance on the manufacture of weapons in the country itself has been strengthened. It was shown at the Army’s Innovation Event on 13 January 2021. Earlier in November 2020 last year, the ‘Rudram’ anti-radiation missile developed by DRDO was successfully tested. The test was carried out with Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft.
