Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, who is on a five-day visit to Ladakh, was on Sunday briefed on the prevalent security situation along the Line of Actual Control, a defence spokesman said here. This is his maiden visit to Ladakh after taking over the charge of the Northern Army Command based at Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir. Belarus’ Defence Ministry said Russia and Belarus would extend joint military exercises that had been due to end on Sunday, dashing Western hopes that Russia would swiftly withdraw forces that could be used in a potential invasion of Ukraine. Strengthening of security grid to ensure zero infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir ordered by HM Amit Shah
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday directed that the security grid in Jammu and Kashmir should be further strengthened to ensure zero cross-border infiltration and to eliminate terrorism. The directive came at a high-level meeting during which Shah reviewed the security situation in the Union Territory. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Army Chief Gen Mukund Naravane and other senior officers of the central and Jammu and Kashmir governments attended the meeting. The home minister directed that the security grid should be further strengthened to ensure zero cross-border infiltration and to eliminate terrorism, an official statement said.
Unidentified terrorist killed in Shopian
An unidentified terrorist was on Saturday killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. Acting on specific input about the presence of terrorists at Chermarg in the Zainapora area of Shopian, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there, a police official said. He said as the forces were conducting searches in the area, the hiding militants fired upon them. The forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter, in which a terrorist was killed, the official said. The identity and group affiliation of the slain ultra is being ascertained, he said.

Indian Navy tests BrahMos supersonic cruise missile
Indian Navy’s warship INS Visakhapatnam carried out the test-firing of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile off the western seaboard today.
