Union Minister of Roads, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari launched the ‘Go Electric Campaign’ on 19 February 2021 to spread awareness about EV charging infrastructure and e-mobility as well as the benefits of electric cooking in India.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari started the campaign saying that Go Electric is the future of India which will help in promoting environmentally friendly, cost-effective and indigenous electric products.

This campaign is an important initiative that will help reduce India’s fossil fuel import dependence in the coming years and will be a step forward towards a greener and cleaner future.
The aim of the Go Electric campaign’ is to create awareness at the pan-India level and it is also expected to give a confidence boost to electric vehicle manufacturers.
Electric fuel is an important alternative to fossil fuels. The import bill for fossil fuels is Rs 8 lakh crore.
Compared to conventional fuels, electric fuel is indigenous with lower emissions and lower cost.
Customers can benefit from electric mode cooking in India due to less fuel wastage.
Electrification of public transport will not only be economical, but will also be environmentally friendly.
In the agricultural sector, green energy can be generated from agricultural waste and biomass which will be beneficial for farmers across the country.
