On 1 October 1947, when Pakistan made a sudden attack on Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh of the independent state of Jammu and Kashmir ordered the army chief of the state, Brigadier Rajendra Singh, to take appropriate action to protect the country. Brigadier Rajendra Singh marched towards Domel (Muzaffarabad) on the evening of 22 October with one hundred soldiers available at Badami Bagh Cantonment.

Then the Pakistani attackers attacked Muzaffarabad and coached them towards Srinagar. The first skirmish took place on 23 October at the location of Garhi. Keeping the enemy engaged in battle during the day and retreating at night, adopting the policy of Nai Frontier captive, Brigadier Singh fought four battles after Garhi, Uri on 24 October, Mahura on 25 and Bunyar on 26.

Meanwhile, by blowing up the bridge of Uri, give great command to the enemy.
