Supreme Court Women Permanent Commission : The Supreme Court has ordered the appointment of women posted on the Short Service Commission in the Army to the Permanent Commission, who have got 60 percent marks in the assessment. The Supreme Court has asked the central government to appoint women servicemen, who have secured 60 per cent marks in the Special 5 Selection Board assessment, to permanent commission.
Along with this, the top court also refused to hear the petition for any change in its order given on March 25. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and MR Shah said that the government should work at the grassroots level to comply with our previous order.

Supreme Court Women Permanent Commission : The top court said that the central government should not file an application for any change in the order. The Central Government had asked the Supreme Court whether officers who are facing disciplinary action, who have scored more than 60 percent marks, should also be given permanent commission. To this, the top court said that it is for the Armed Forces Tribunal to decide whether such women servicemen should be posted or not.
Earlier, the apex court, in its order on March 25, had said that the scale of the army regarding the appointment of women in permanent commission was absurd and arbitrary. The court held the requirement of medical fitness for women regarding the commission as “arbitrary” and “irrational”. Along with this it was said that ‘the structure of our society is made by men for men’.
This observation of the court was seen as a major change in stance. The Supreme Court had held that the Army’s Annual Confidential Report (ACR) evaluation and late implementation of medical fitness criteria discriminated against women officers.
