Special Naval Architecture Entry Scheme : Officer selection in the Navy is done on the basis of all India Merit and is publicised in the Employment News as well as all major national and regional newspapers/dailies. A career in the Indian Navy is available to young men and women from around the country. They have the choice of joining the Indian Navy’s Executive, Technical, or Education Branches. The Indian Navy has two types of induction: UPSC Entry and Non-UPSC Entry. In this blog, we are going to discuss Special Naval Architects Entry Scheme or SNAES to become an officer in Indian navy.

Special Naval Architecture Entry Scheme Details 

The ‘Special Naval Architects Entry Scheme’ (SNAES) is a unique program recently approved by the Government of India to recruit 45 Naval Architect officers in the Naval Architecture Cadre of the Engineering Branch as Short Service Commission or SSC Officers. Special Naval Architecture Entry Scheme is a Non-UPSC Entry. 

Notably, Non-UPSC entries include both Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission positions. The Short Service Commission has a 10-year term that can be extended to 14 years. There is no written test for non-UPSC applicants. In this situation, applications are sought and shortlisted at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Navy) based on the marks obtained in the qualifying educational examinations, i.e., 10+2, Graduate, or Postgraduate. Short-listed applicants are invited to SSB interviews. Following that, a merit list of competent candidates is created based on the availability of openings.

In Special Naval Architecture Entry Scheme, a group of authorized Naval team visits institutions such as IIT Kharagpur, IIT Chennai, Cochin University of Science and Technology or CUSAT, and Andhra University to select applicants through campus interviews. After choosing via campus interviews, applicants are medically examined at the nearby Military Hospital. After proving medical fitness candidates are chosen for training to become an officer in Indian Navy.
