Nepal will buy weapons from China, army will also take training from Chinese army

During the one-day visit of Defense Minister Wei Fenghe to Nepal, several important agreements have been reached between the two countries. The Chinese Defense Minister has assured to maintain close relations with Nepal. General Wei has also praised Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for supporting the One China policy. The visit of the Chinese Defense Minister is considered to be very important in the midst of the ongoing political crisis in Nepal.

The Chinese Defense Minister met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Sunday and exchanged views on issues of common interest. During this time, Wei negotiated with the Nepali Army Chief General Purna Chandra Thapa to restore military cooperation and training, which has been affected due to Covid-19.

According to a statement issued by the Chinese Ministry of Defense, Wei told Nepali leaders that China commends Nepal for steadfastly adopting a Chinese policy and supports Nepal’s security of national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Giving details of Wei’s visit to Nepal, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the Defense Minister told Nepali leaders that China would continue to have close contact with Nepal and would continue to provide assistance for Nepal’s military needs.

During his visit to the Chinese Defense Minister, Nepal has made an agreement to sell small military weapons and accessories, yet Nepal has been buying large part of its weapons from India. General Wei is also reported to have offered jobs to Nepalese Gurkhas in the Chinese Army under his third agenda.
