International Nelson Mandela day : 18 July

On 18 July United Nation declared it as Nelson Mandela day in recognition for the contribution to the culture of peace and freedom.

United Nation announced 18 July as an Nelson Mandela Day on November 2009. Since then it celebrated for the service of Nelson Mandela to the culture of peace and Freedom . This years’ celebration have the significance of completing 100 years since the birth of Nelson Mandela .

On this day people remembers the Mandela’s values and his devotion to the humanity for abolishing traditions like race reations, gender equality, promotion and protection of human rights; right of children and other issues.

About Nelson Mandela

• He was born in Madiba in Esatern Cape on 18 July 1918.
• His old name was Rolihlahla Mandela.
• He completed his graduation from University of South Africa .
• He completed his LLB program from the University of the Witwatersrand
• He came into politics in year 1942.
• He joined African National Congress in 1944
• He contributed to form the ANC Youth League (ANCYL)
• He was arrested in 5 Decemebr 1956 due to which 1956 Treason Trial happened.
• He was most dedicated to the issue of racism.
• His government did lot of efforts to bring South Africa into new era.
• He was imprisoned in 1962 and sentences to life imprisonment .
• He was imprisoned for 27 years.
• He was first president of SouthAfrica which is democratically elected on May 10, 1994.
• After completing one term as President he back off from the political status
• He worked with Nelson Mandela Foundation and Mandela Rhodes Foundation
• He dies in Johannesburg on 5 December 2013′
