The NSCN (Khaplang) and several other Naga militant organizations are demanding the formation of a ‘Greater Nagaland’ by encompassing all Naga-populated areas (Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh areas).

Sources said that one of the main leaders of the group, which broke away from the NSCN (K), is in the process of surrendering to security forces in Phek district of Nagaland with 52 members (cadres). He said that eight more members of the group are also likely to surrender, after which the number will increase to 60.

Sources said that the Nikki Sumi-led group, which broke away from the NSCN (K-yung Ang), has more than 60 rebels. Sources said Sumi has been a key commander of the NSCN (K) group. He is also the main accused of an attack on an army convoy by the NSCN (K) in June 2015 in Manipur. In this attack, 18 military personnel were martyred.
