Why MNS follow Army Ranking Structure ?

MNS was started in 1888, by the Britishers. They came India with only 10 nurses with them. Then in 1926, the induction of Indian women started. And this service got legalized in 1950.In 1954, the first ruling of the government came about the ranking, promotions, role, etc. in the starting MNS is for army only but later they serve for air force and navy. Though the navy has its own INS Asvini. But the air force did not have their own hospitals.

There is hierarchy of hospitals in forces, the very first is MI room like a regimental level, on a station. And sometimes there is a MI room in between two or three stations.They are not specialist, rather they treat for minor sickness. They do not treat major or critical problems.For that they refer to nearest MH, where all the tri-service personnel were treated.If the case is still serious or critical then Personnels are send to Base hospital, after that it comes to Command Hospital, thereafter at last the case is referred to Research and Referral hospital, New Delhi where the president of India is treated which the best in India.

The nurses of MNS are appointed not at the station level. There is a field ambulance and a field hospital in between. They majorly active in operational areas. There is a trauma center in field ambulance deployed with a MNS officer, but in rare cases. Otherwise, the postings of MNS officer starts form MH. The field hospitals is functional in the areas where there is no MH. Thus majority of Hospitals in Armed Forces are Army Set ups Thus MNS Follows Indian Army Hierarchy or Indian Army Ranking Structure.
