INS Dhruv to Track Satellites, Strategic Missiles

MUMBAI: To meet the security challenges posed by China’s new-found aggression, which is exhibited by the fast-expanding People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in the Indo-Pacific region,.

India is set to commission INS Dhruv to boost surveillance capabilities, track satellites, strategic missiles and map the Indian Ocean bed. INS Dhruv will be deployed in the Indian Ocean to track enemy missiles targeted at Indian cities and military establishments. It will act as an early warning system.

INS Dhruv has been developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy with India’s Strategic Force Command and National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) and built by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd at its Visakhapatnam facility under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan initiative.

Commenting on the salient features of INS Dhruv an official said, “It is equipped with the active electronically scanned array radars, or AESA, considered a game-changer in radar technology, and can scan various spectrums to monitor satellites of adversaries that are watching over India. Moreover, it possesses the ability to understand the range and true missile capability of hostile nations in the Indo-Pacific region. In a nutshell, INS Dhruv will provide vital inputs to the Indian Navy for planning better offensive operations in all three dimensions i.e. sub-surface, surface, and aerial.
