CDSE stands for Combined Defence Services Examination. Every year UPSC i.e. Union Public Service Commission conducts CDS examination twice a year for the recruitment of Commissioned Officers in the Indian Armed Forces. As the name suggests it is a Combined Defence Examination for joining Indian Army, Indian Navy & Indian Airforce as an Officer by the courses carried out by Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Air Force Academy (AFA), Indian Naval Academy (INA) and Officers training Academy (OTA). Unlike NDA both Male and Female graduates are eligible to sit for the examination.

A person having foreign citizenship cannot apply for CDS but If He/She has an Indian passport and documents supporting his/her claim of Indian citizenship then they can apply for CDS.
The toughness level varies from easy to difficult depending upon a candidate’s approach and preparation.
For CDS paper, each question carries 4 options and out of which only 1 option is correct. For each incorrect answer, 1/3 of the marks will be deducted. More than one option marked is treated as incorrect.
The written exam of CDS is of total 300 marks and each section is 100 marks. The minimum qualifying marks of each section are 20% of the total marks. It becomes compulsory for candidates to score a minimum of 60 marks to qualify the exam.
The selected candidates undergo rigorous training in respective academies. Indian Military Academy Army, Dehradun - 18 months (1.5 yrs) training Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala - 18 months (1.5 yrs) training
