National Handloom Day is celebrated in the country on 7th August, there is a special significance behind it. The Swadeshi movement was started on this day in 1905 and on this day the Swadeshi movement was formally launched at a public meeting at the Townhall of Kolkata. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Government of India celebrates National Handloom Day on 7 August every year in memory of this. National Handloom Day was inaugurated on 7 August 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Centenary Corridor of the College of Madras in Chennai, since then it is celebrated annually. 7th National Handloom Day is being celebrated on 7th August 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

The handloom sector has emerged as the most important cottage trade in India over time. Handloom weavers have been making goods using pure fibers like cotton, silk and wool. The primary goal of organizing National Handloom Day is to highlight the contribution of handlooms in the socio-economic reform of India.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Every year on National Handloom Day, workshops are organized by the government to inform the weavers about the options of work, although it was affected last year due to corona, although this time such workshops are organized in many places. Used to be.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why is handloom special?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Handloom industry is one of the essential part of the cultural heritage of India. According to the ministry statement, it continues to be an essential source of livelihood, especially for women, who make up about 70% of the weavers of the region. The day is celebrated to honor the handloom community and acknowledge their contribution to the socio-economic development of India.<\/span><\/p>\n

Handloom industry is very ancient<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The handloom industry has been providing livelihood to the hand artisans since ancient times. Goods manufactured by handloom industry are also exported a lot to foreign countries. It is believed that about 7 lakh persons are engaged in various works of this industry. But if we talk about their economic condition, then it can be said that despite all the government claims, their condition remains pathetic. However, in 2017 the government had taken a big decision saying that many government services like Aadhaar and PAN card would be offered to the weavers at the Weavers Service Centers set up across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These centers have become single window service centers along with providing technical help to the weavers, but the weavers also complain about not getting the right benefits of the services.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Handloom, powerloom, wool, jute and silk boards are being abolished continuously by the government. Due to which the condition of the weavers working in this area is getting pathetic, the government should provide such e-market platform to the people associated with handloom-weavers with large market by private and public craft institutions, instead of the abolition of these institutions, where they could show their art.<\/span><\/p>\n
