Flagging Prime Minister\u00a0Narendra Modi\u2019s landmark visit to Israel in July 2017 \u2013 the first by an Indian Prime Minister to that country \u2013 the NYT report said that visit came even as \u201cIndia had maintained a policy\u201d of what it called \u201ccommitment to the Palestinian cause,\u201d and \u201crelations with Israel were frosty.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Modi visit, however, was notably cordial, complete with a carefully staged moment of him and Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu walking together barefoot on a local beach. They had reason for the warm feelings.
