What is SSB Looking For : Many defence aspirants begin studying for the SSB interview after passing the written test. The Service Selection Board (SSB) is the authority in charge of recruiting young people to join the armed forces. Notably, it is critical for all defence applicants to understand the SSB interview and what they will encounter at the SSB.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, understanding what the SSB wants from a candidate is also essential. The bulk of applicants go into their SSB interview without any preparation and have no idea what the board is looking for in officers. Even potential candidates are unable to perform better when the time comes since they are not informed of such critical knowledge on officer-like qualities. In this article, we will explain what the SSB looks for in an aspirant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Officer abilities must be distinguished from other variables considered during the selection process. Personal qualities (PQs), or Officer Like Qualities (OLQs) as they are known in India, are traits, states, needs, motives, objectives, attitudes, interests, deciding tendencies, and general inclinations toward personal or social circumstances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a SSB Interview, OLQs are evaluated. So, let\u2019s discuss these qualities.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Effective Intelligence: Effective Intelligence is the\u00a0ability used in dealing with practical problems of changing complexity.\u00a0 It differs from fundamental intelligence, which is the ability to recognise relationships or reason abstractly. Intellect tests, which can be verbal or nonverbal, are used to measure basic intelligence. Effective intelligence comprises the following:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    • Practical intelligence: it is the ability to discover unique answers to real issues and circumstances.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • Resourcefulness: Resourcefulness is the ability to employ the available means to achieve the desired result through resource improvisation and problem solving while in a tight corner.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        • Reasoning ability: Reasoning ability is the capacity to understand the basics and reach conclusions through reasonable and logical reasoning. It entails openness, a questioning mindset, logical thinking, and recognising the fundamentals of a subject.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          • Receptivity: it is the ability to comprehend and assimilate new information. It necessitates a high level of curiosity, concentration, and grasping capability.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            (b) An inquisitive mindset:\u00a0\u00a0 Healthy curiosity leads to a desire to broaden one’s general knowledge and life experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

            (c) Logical reasoning: it is the capacity to reach a decision or make a judgement solely on the basis of rational thought while ignoring emotional elements.<\/span><\/p>\n

            • Recognizing the essence of a problem: It is the capacity of an individual to not only be clear in his understanding of the problem at hand, but also to analyse multiple aspects, move them in order of significance, and make optimum use of them in order to achieve a solution.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              • \u00a0Organising ability: It is the\u00a0talent to organise resources in a methodical manner in order to achieve successful outcomes. It may also be described as the capacity to make the greatest use of the available methods to achieve the intended goal.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • \u00a0Expressive ability:\u00a0 This is the most significant instrument for assessing a person’s capacity to communicate ideas effectively and clearly.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • \u00a0Flexibility in social situation:\u00a0 The capacity of an individual to adapt to his social surroundings and adjust effectively with individuals and social groupings, with particular reference to superiors, equals, and subordinates. Social intelligence, attitude toward others, tact, and flexibility are all examples of social adaptation.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • Collaboration:\u00a0An individual’s willingness to cooperate freely in harmony with others in a group in order to achieve the collective purpose. This reflects a view that group work is more fruitful than individual effort. Cooperation entails both mutual effort and team spirit. Team spirit denotes dedication to the group’s goals and objectives to the point of subordinating individual goals to collective goals.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • Sense of Responsibility: It helps a person to be trustworthy and to gladly perform his obligations. It incorporates a sense of obligation, but it is far more extensive in meaning and breadth.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • Initiative: it is the ability to initiate meaningful action. It has the following characteristics: –\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                (a) The ability to take the initial steps in a new circumstance.<\/span><\/p>\n

                (b) Move in\u00a0the right direction.<\/span><\/p>\n

                (c) Maintain it until the target is reached.<\/span><\/p>\n
