India successfully test-fired the Smart Anti Airfield Weapon in Rajasthan’s Pokhran range on 28 October. A government official gave this information on Friday. Along with this, he also told that more testing of this weapon, which specializes in hitting the target accurately, is expected in the coming days. This is the 10th test of this weapon. The SAAW project was approved by the Government of India in 2013.<\/p>\n

Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW) is a long-range precision-guided anti-airfield weapon developed by Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) of India. It is designed to be capable of hitting ground targets with a precision strike range of up to 100 kilometers (62 mi). In September 2020, SAAW was approved for procurement by the Government of India for the Navy and Air Force.<\/p>\n

The first successful test of the weapon was done in May 2016. Another successful test was done in November 2017. This was followed by a series of three more successful tests in December 2017. Between 16 and 18 August 2018, three successful trials were conducted, taking the total number of trials to eight. In January 2021, DRDO conducted its 9th successful test.<\/p>\n

India has done this test at a time when two days ago, on 27 October, the country, increasing its military power, successfully test-launched the Agni-5 surface-to-surface ballistic missile on Wednesday, which is extremely accurate. It can hit targets up to 5,000 km.<\/p>\n

Agni-5 was test fired from APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha at around 7:50 pm on Wednesday. Work on the Agni-5 intercontinental ballistic missile project began more than a decade ago. People with knowledge of the project said that this is the first user trial of the missile, which can come under the far northern part of China.<\/p>\n

The first Agni-5 and now the Smart Anti Airfield Weapon have been tested at a time when India’s standoff along the border with China in eastern Ladakh continues. The purpose of the Agni-5 project is to enhance India’s nuclear deterrence against China, which has missiles like Dongfeng-41, which have a range of 12,000 to 15,000 km.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
