The Modi government has taken a big decision on 29 July 2021 regarding reservation in medical education. Reservation will be given to Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Economically Backward (EWS) class in medical education. OBC will be given 27 percent and EWS will be given 10 percent reservation.<\/p>\n

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya himself has given this information by tweeting. This decision will come into effect from the 2021-22 session. The government has approved OBC and EWS reservation for All India Quota seats for undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental courses.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare says that about 5,550 students will benefit from this decision. The government is committed to provide reservation to the backward class and economically weaker section.<\/p>\n

In the year 2019, a constitutional amendment was made in which 10 percent reservation was given to the EWS category. This was followed by an increase in seats in medical and dental colleges in the last 2 years as a part of the reforms to give some more benefits. These provisions were issued to provide more opportunities to the students and to accommodate the new increasing number of admissions under EWS reservation. But this category was not included in the All India Quota Scheme.<\/p>\n

Under the All India Quota Scheme (AIQ) every year, 5,550 candidates in MBBS, MS, BDS, MDS, Dental, Medical and Diploma will get the benefit. After this decision of the government, about 1,500 OBC candidates in MBBS and 2,500 OBC candidates in PG will get the benefit of this reservation every year. Apart from this, 550 economically weaker section candidates in MBBS and about 1,000 candidates in post graduation will be benefited from this reservation every year.<\/p>\n

The All India Quota Scheme was started in 1986 under the direction of the Supreme Court. Its main objective was to enable the students of other states to take advantage of reservation in other states also. Till the year 2008, there was no reservation in the All India Quota Scheme. But, in the year 2007, the Supreme Court had introduced 15 percent reservation for Scheduled Castes and 7.5 percent for Scheduled Tribes in this scheme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
