4,300 Russian Troops Killed &146 Tanks Destroyed Amid Invasion Claims Ukraine
Ukraine on Sunday released a tally of casualties and damage inflicted on the Russian invading forces by the Ukrainian army. Speaking at a session of the Security Council, Ukraine’s delegate Sergey Kiseltsya stated that Moscow’s aggression against Kyiv is based on lies and violations of international law, stressing that Russia uses in the military operation all kinds of heavy weapons, including missiles. Kiseltsya revealed that around 4,300 Russian soldiers had been killed in combat during the first three days of the invasion of Ukraine by Moscow. Separately, taking to Facebook, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar also informed that Russian troops
Vladimir Putin Alerts Nuclear Deterrent Forces
Russian president Vladimir Putin overnight ordered the defence minister and the chief of the military to put nuclear deterrent forces in a “special regime of combat duty”, possibly referring to readying tactical nuclear forces. This could of course be a bluff, but Putin has demonstrated on numerous occasions he has a cavalier disrespect for human life and for the planet, and that he is willing to take extreme risks to achieve his strategic goals. The risk Putin would order the use of nuclear weapons in response to a US or NATO intervention is low, but it cannot be dismissed. The US has described
Russia Vetoes Against UNSC Resolution Against It After War With Ukraine
Russia on Friday vetoed a draft UN Security Council resolution on Ukraine, while India, China, and UAE abstained from the vote. The vote was 11 in favour, one against, and three abstentions. India abstained from voting saying that the path of the “diplomacy was given up”. “India’s deeply disturbed by the recent turn of developments in Ukraine. We urge that all efforts are made for the immediate cessation of violence and hostilities,” said India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, TS Tirumurti at the UNSC meeting on Ukraine. “It is a matter of regret that the path of diplomacy was
USA Imposes Sanctions on Russia
US President Joe Biden has announced new sanctions against Russia, saying Moscow’s independent recognition of two separatist regions in eastern Ukraine is the beginning of a Russian offensive. The US has criticized Russia’s decision to recognize the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk and authorize the deployment of Russian troops under the guise of maintaining peace in the region. The US sanctions have targeted Russia’s sovereign debt and two of the country’s financial institutions, including Russia’s military bank. These sanctions mean that Russia will no longer be able to raise funds from Western and European markets. The Russian government recognized the
Russia, Belarus extend huge military exercises
Belarus’ Defence Ministry said Russia and Belarus would extend joint military exercises that had been due to end on Sunday, dashing Western hopes that Russia would swiftly withdraw forces that could be used in a potential invasion of Ukraine. The ministry did not say how long Russian troops in Belarus – estimated by NATO to number 30,000 – might now remain in the country, which lies north of Ukraine. The decision to extend was taken because of increased military activity near the borders of Russia and Belarus and an escalation of the situation in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbass, the Belarus ministry said in a statement. Top Joe Biden aide says Ukraine invasion coming soon
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Sunday that Russia could invade Ukraine “any day,” launching a conflict that would come at an “enormous human cost.” The senior adviser to President Joe Biden offered another stark warning the day after US officials confirmed that Russia has assembled at least 70% of the military firepower it likely intends to have in place by mid-month to give President Vladimir Putin the option of launching a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. “If war breaks out, it will come at an enormous human cost to Ukraine, but we believe that based on our preparations
