Dr. S. Somnath will be the new chairman of ISRO. They K. Will replace Sivan. He is the fourth Keralite to achieve the top position in ISRO. Last Keralite K. Radhakrishnan, Madhavan Nair and K. Kasturirangan was Somnath was nominated in 2019. He was nominated on the basis of his seniority. However, Sivan’s tenure was extended by one year. Dr. Somnath completed his college pre-degree at Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam. He studied engineering at T.K.M. From College of Engineering. He joined VSSC center in 1985. ISRO’s first unmanned space mission to be launched in December 2021
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced in her budget speech on 01 February 2021 that ISRO’s first unmanned space mission will be launched in December 2021 as a part of Gaganyaan. Earlier, this unmanned mission was to be launched in December 2020, but, due to the critical situation of coronavirus epidemic in India including the whole world, it had to be postponed. The Finance Minister also informed that, four Indian astronauts are being trained in general space flight aspects for the main Gaganyaan mission in Russia, which is India’s first manned space mission.
