Army Veterans Day : On 14 January 2020, on behalf of the army, as the date of retirement of Field Marshal KM Kariappa is celebrated as Ex-Servicemen Day also known as Army Veterans Day. Cariappa was the first Commander-in-Chief of the army and became the first Commander-in-Chief of the country in 1949, taking charge from Sir Francis Butcher. After Veterans Day, Army Day is celebrated on 15 January.
